SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability, in simple terms, is the capacity to endure.  In the broad context, sustainable architecture seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space.  PGN Architects strive for design excellence incorporating environmentally-conscious solutions.

Our experienced team of architects, LEED APs and engineers approaches each project holistically, identifying the environmental impacts, budget constraints, programmatic functional and esthetic criteria, incorporating them into smart growth solutions.  At the completion of a project, we hope to achieve a successful integration of social, economic and environmental factors into the architecture that stand the test of time.

Key principles of our designs:

• Use low environmental impact materials

• Locally extracted, processed and manufactured

• Conserve, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

• Renewability of materials

• Quality and Durability

• Life-cycle assessments

• Energy Efficiency - less energy used for material production and efficient building design

• Service substitution & behavioral changes, e.g. metro riders, car sharing, going paperless...

• Healthy Building issues - indoor air quality, occupant comfort, day lighting and outdoor views.
